Ep 228 Jack Madrid’s Global Adventures Balancing Career, Wine, and Curiosity

Hi Reader,

Did you notice that I have been asking you a question in recent newsletters?

This week, I'm moving the question up near the top. Will you answer it for me? It will take less than 5 seconds. 👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼

Thank you!

This week on episode 228 I'm joined by the globe trotting Jack Madrid.

I met Jack a couple of years ago when I featured him on another podcast I was hosting at the time. We hit it off and I have wanted to feature him on the Midlife Fulfilled podcast to share his perspective with you.

Jack's perspective is grounded in an insatiable curiosity.

When I say that Jack is "curious" I mean that it is in his DNA. By his own admission, he doesn't consciously think about curiosity.

He just is curious. About everything.

Consequently, he lives an interesting life filled with ambitious career responsibilities -- he is the CEO of an industry association in the Philippines -- and with an affinity to learn and grow on just about any topic.

You will hear Jack explain how he got into wine.

He considers himself a wine student. Literally. He enrolled in advanced wine studies.

He is also a wine columnist. He often attends wine tasting events where he insists on "blind tasting."

Jack often shares photos of his wine tasting adventures, along with commentary.

Jack's story is about being optimistic.

He suggests that being curious is directly tied to being optimistic.

He awakes each day wondering which lives he will touch or who will touch him with a new experience.

Jack says that he learns from his daily encounters with people in any setting.

In fact, on this week's episode Jack informed me that he learned something at the end of our conversation.

I have a hunch you'll learn something from Jack Madrid.

Let's do this...

Why Are 82% of Managers Hired the Wrong Choice?

Gallup’s research shows only 1 in 10 people have the natural talent to manage, yet organizations continue to invest in leadership training that often fails to move the needle on engagement, productivity, or retention.

Gallup's research reveals a painful truth: Traditional leadership training in the U.S. is failing. Businesses are investing heavily, but employee engagement remains at 23% globally and 30% in the U.S.

Why is manager effectiveness so alarmingly low?

Because we're training leaders with outdated models that prioritize process over human connection.

Another way to scrutinize this is to allege that leaders are trained to manage, not to lead.

The result? Disengaged teams, high turnover, and a talent drain that's costing billions.

It's clear the time for incremental change is over. We need a fundamental shift in leadership development, recognizing that the employee of 2025 needs to experience both personal and professional fulfillment.

That's why the time for Fulfillment Centric Leadership™ Framework is now.

It's about empowering leaders to build cultures where individuals thrive – personally and professionally – not just survive. It's about unlocking potential and driving sustainable success through authentic connection and purpose.

I’m on a mission to redefine leadership.

That's why I created a leadership audit. Take the audit to find out where your leadership currently stands. 👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼
