Ep 227 Legacy Building for Entrepreneurs: Vince Warnock's Journey

Hi Reader,

Have you ever done something that you're ashamed of?

Maybe you have. But, how often do you talk about it? Have you ever openly discussed it on a podcast?

That's what I did on this week's episode 227 featuring Vince Warnock.

I invited Vince to join me for a 'Vulnerable Conversation.' As Vince shared his personal story without holding anything back, I reached a moment in our conversation where I shared an experience that I'm not proud of.

The good news is that experience was a valuable life lesson, which I explain in this episode.

Vince's journey from a difficult childhood in New Zealand to his current life of success in family and business, reveals how he has discovered his legacy purpose.

As you listen to this episode, consider where you are in your legacy quest.

I believe we are all on a legacy quest in midlife. Whether it is a conscious effort or a subconscious effort, it's something that we all experience when we reach our midlife seasons.

Vince reminds us that discovering our legacy purpose sometimes connects back to our early development years.

His experience with another podcaster is testimony to the self-discovery process he has experienced as recently as a few months ago.

Vince explains his approach to legacy-building. You and I are unique in our approach to building legacy. That's the beauty of it. We each have our own story to offer the world. Each story matters.

Vince's story is moving for many reasons.

Maybe the biggest reason that you'll be moved by Vinces' story is because it will cause you to think about your legacy quest.

You will have a takeaway from this week's episode, that much I am sure of. Below is an outline of our discussion.

Let's do this...

Legacy Building for Entrepreneurs: Vince Warnock's Journey

On episode 227 Vince Warnock joins us for a riveting conversation. Despite growing up in an abusive home, Vince overcame his challenges and achieved significant success. His story is a testament to the power of having a supportive teacher and mentor. Vince is passionate about helping others, particularly those who feel like they don’t fit in, and he shares a profound message about the importance of giving everyone a voice.

🗝️ Here are three key discussion points:

1️⃣ Overcoming Adversity: Vince opens up about his tough childhood, growing up in an abusive and impoverished home. The turning point came at the age of 11 when an inspiring teacher taught him to believe in himself, leading to a lifelong passion for helping others find their voice, especially those who feel like they don't fit in.

2️⃣ Balancing Family and Career: Vince talks candidly about the mistakes he made early in his family life, particularly prioritizing work over being present with his wife and kids. He shares how these experiences taught him the importance of being there for his family and involving them in his journey, emphasizing the value of communication and shared goals.

3️⃣ Legacy and Health Focus: Currently, Vince is focused on his legacy and health. He's passionate about creating businesses that help others, particularly entrepreneurs, and is working on health by joining a gym and considering circus school activities—a fun approach to fitness.

Main Takeaway: Vince Warnock’s story is a powerful reminder of the importance of resilience, the impact of mentors, and the value of balancing personal fulfillment with professional success. Why the Midlife Crisis Might Be the Best Thing That Ever Happened to You

The term midlife crisis often conjures up images of sports cars, career upheaval, a bulging midsection, or existential dread—but what if we’ve been looking at it all wrong?

What if the “crisis” isn’t a collapse, but a calling?

For many of us over 40, midlife marks a powerful inflection point—not because everything is falling apart, but because something deeper is waking up inside our soul. A craving for purpose, alignment, and legacy. A shift from chasing external success to cultivating internal fulfillment.

And here's the surprising part: most midlifers are already well on their way.

The Myth vs. Reality of the Midlife Crisis

For decades, the midlife crisis has been portrayed as a moment of unraveling—triggered by lost youth, career stagnation, or unfulfilled dreams. But today’s midlifers are rewriting that narrative.

The truth is that most aren’t falling apart. They’re waking up.

Instead of spiraling, they’re stepping back to ask big questions:

  • Is this the life I want?
  • What impact do I want to have?
  • What legacy am I leaving behind?

From Awareness to Action: The Fulfillment & Values Alignment Exercise

One of the most powerful tools to turn this awareness into clarity is a simple, yet transformative self-reflection exercise. It’s something I use in leadership workshops—and it’s just as impactful for personal growth.

Here’s how to do it:

  1. Rate your fulfillment in each of the five pillars (Health, Fitness, Career, Relationships, Legacy) on a scale from 1 to 10.
  2. Identify your current core values. What truly matters to you right now? (e.g., growth, security, creativity, service, freedom, etc.)
  3. Compare the two. Where are your values aligned with your fulfillment in each pillar? Where are they misaligned?

These insights are where clarity begins—and it’s important to understand that clarity has two distinct but connected roles:

  • Clarity in leading yourself means recognizing where your life is aligned (or not) with your values. This fuels intentional decisions and aligned action.
  • Clarity in leading others means recognizing that everyone—your team, your peers, your family—is on their own fulfillment journey. When you’ve done this work yourself, you can lead with empathy, trust, and purpose.

If you're in a formal leadership role, you need both.
If you're not in a leadership role, you still are—as the leader of your own life.
