When two worlds collide (in a good way)
Published about 2 months ago • 2 min read
Hi Reader,
A few months ago, I was asked to deliver my training program for individuals. No organization. Just the people, so they can benefit from it for themselves.
I re-purposed my training material for delivery to individuals without much effort because it was always about helping leaders become more self aware.
The primary difference was this time the desired outcome was improved SELF LEADERSHIP.
Here's the back story...When I deliver training to a group of leaders at a corporate client, I'm guiding them to become more effective leaders in the workplace.
In this scenario, there are two beneficiaries: the organization and the leaders, themselves.
When I write marketing copy about this training, I emphasize the benefit of the training with statements such as "reduce turnover," and "improve employee performance." These are benefits exclusively for the organization.
In other words, my marketing copy doesn't stress the benefit to the leaders.
That's regrettable. Guilty as charged.
This is why I devoted the last three podcast episodes to self leadership. This week's episode 294 is the fourth and final episode in this series on self leadership.
This is the episode where I deliver the tool I've promised in episodes 291, 292, and 293.
This blueprint is not for everyone. It's not for you if you are adequately fulfilled in most areas of your life, or if you're solidly entrenched in a fulfilling career.
This blueprint is for two people.
If you're in the middle of a hard job search, getting your applications screened by AI and the loudest sound you hear is crickets, this blueprint is for you.
If you're a high achiever with a great title, an enviable career and reputation, yet you're wondering, "is this it?," this blueprint is for you.
90 Day Self Leadership Blueprint
The reason this blueprint is for these two profiles is because the next move is exactly the same for both.
The blueprint asks you to identify your anchor, and the three moves you want to make over the next 90 days. The 90-day framework allows you to identify the 30/60/90-day checkpoints for accountability.
My favorite part of the blueprint is the Friction-Proofing Plan. You'll identify the three enemies most likely to derail your plan before they ever show up, and importantly, define your defense strategy against these three enemies.
The Three Enemies of Any Self Leadership Plan
Your defense against these three enemies are either system-level, or identity-led.
Every plan experiences friction at some point. When that friction happens your defense strategy has already been identified. You planned to overcome these enemies because you knew they were coming.

I was once asked by someone in one of my coaching programs why I didn't share this resource more broadly.
So, here it is available to anyone who wants it. I'm asking you to fill out a short form so I know who accessed it. This allows me to keep you informed of future private group cohorts that use this blueprint.

Hi Reader, Have you ever raced against a horse? Neither have I. But, it turns out that people do it all the time. At least, the people who enter the Man Against Horse Race in Prescott, Arizona. This week on episode 301, Mike Reynold shares his journey of ultramarathon running in his 40s. Mike's story is not about running marathons, or Ironmans, or running against horses for 50 miles, or even about his upcoming 100 mile ultramarathon. Mike's story is about his commitment to never quitting, no...
Hi Reader, When I started this podcast in 2022, I didn't anticipate reaching 300 episodes. And, here we are. Whether you're just joining me for this journey, or you've been a part of this journey for a while, I thank you for subscribing, and (hopefully) listening or watching. This week on episode 300 I solo, sharing a personal story that taught me a valuable lesson. In all my years of leading at work, at home and in community settings, I never realized the importance of self-leadership. Since...
Hi Reader, We all have our own definition of success. Along the journey we receive an endless supply of advice from friends, family, mentors, coaches, authors, podcasters, and complete strangers. One piece of advice I've never heard was to help others succeed as a way to experience your own success. I've heard variations of this, but never as an explicit strategy with a proven track record of helping others succeed and experiencing success for oneself. This week on episode 299 I'm joined by...
